Netherlands Government Agency Scheme 1953-1958
Also known as ‘Landing Permit (LP) new style’.
In 1953 The Netherlands Government started to assist Dutch migrants who were – according to the Australian selection teams in the Netherlands – not eligible under the NAMA Scheme. The migrants under the NGAS-scheme usually had to pay for their overseas passage costs, but were financially assisted by both governments with the costs of travelling within Australia and with the cost of accommodation. The Dutch government was held responsible for offering work in collaboration with the Australian Employment Service. The Australian government agreed to offer accommodation in holding centers and hostels. The NGAS-scheme was ended when the conditions of acceptance under NAMA were liberalized.
